Hey everyone, Robert Kline here! Let’s face it, between work, family, and trying to squeeze in some “me time”, who has time for elaborate meals? That’s why I’m a HUGE fan of stir-fries. They’re healthy, fast, and incredibly versatile. Today, I’m going to share my go-to chicken stir fry recipe that’s perfect for those busy weeknights. Trust me, it’s a game-changer!

The Secret to a Flavorful Chicken Stir Fry

The key to an amazing stir fry lies in the layering of flavors. We’ll start by browning the chicken, creating a base of savory goodness. Then, we’ll toss in fresh, vibrant veggies that soak up all those delicious juices. And finally, the piece de resistance – a homemade stir fry sauce that will have your taste buds singing!

Creating the Ultimate Chicken Stir Fry Sauce

Forget those bottled sauces! We’re making our own, packed with flavor and made with simple ingredients you probably already have in your pantry.

Here’s what we’ll use:

  • Honey: Just a touch to balance the savory notes and make it a family favorite.
  • Toasted Sesame Oil: A little goes a long way, adding that authentic Asian-inspired aroma and taste.
  • Low Sodium Soy Sauce: Essential for that classic stir fry flavor, but we’re keeping it healthy with the low sodium version.
  • Chicken Broth: Adds depth and helps to thin out the sauce to the perfect consistency.
  • Cornstarch and Water: Our secret weapon for a velvety smooth sauce that clings beautifully to the chicken and veggies.
  • Crushed Red Pepper Flakes (optional): A pinch adds a touch of heat if you like a little kick.

Fresh Veggies for the Win!

While frozen veggies are convenient, I always recommend using fresh produce whenever possible. Not only does it taste better, but you also get the added bonus of vibrant colors and textures that make your stir fry even more appealing.

For this recipe, I’ve used broccoli, carrots, and bell peppers. But feel free to get creative! Snap peas, mushrooms, zucchini, and bok choy are all fantastic additions to your stir fry.

Pro Tip: Did you know that different vegetables require different cooking times? Add harder veggies like broccoli and carrots to the pan first, followed by softer veggies like mushrooms and greens towards the end. This ensures that everything is cooked to perfection!

Let’s Get Cooking!

  1. Prep your ingredients: Cube the chicken, chop your veggies, and whisk together the stir fry sauce ingredients.
  2. Cook the chicken: Heat some olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Season the chicken with salt and pepper, then cook until browned and cooked through. Remove the chicken and set it aside.
  3. Stir-fry the veggies: Add a bit more oil to the skillet, then add the veggies. Cook, stirring frequently, until they’re crisp-tender.
  4. Bring it all together: Add the chicken back to the skillet along with the stir fry sauce. Bring the sauce to a boil, stirring constantly, until it thickens slightly.

Time to Enjoy Your Culinary Masterpiece!

Serve your chicken stir-fry hot over steamed rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds, chopped green onions, or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for an extra pop of flavor.
