Tips & Trick

Craft the Perfect DIY Wall-Mounted Tablet Holder

Hey there, fellow craft enthusiasts! Ever find yourself juggling laundry, recipes, or your favorite show while your tablet precariously balances on a countertop? I’ve been there! That’s why I decided to take matters into my own hands and create a DIY wall-mounted tablet holder. It’s a game-changer, let me tell you!

This project is perfect for adding a touch of functional style to your laundry room, kitchen, or even bathroom. Plus, it’s easier to make than you think! So, gather your tools, and let’s get crafting!

Materials You’ll Need

Before we dive in, let’s gather our supplies. You’ll need:

  • Wood: I used leftover pine and birch scraps (5/8″ thick).
  • Cutting Tools: A jigsaw will do the trick, but a miter saw offers cleaner cuts.
  • Fasteners: Grab your trusty nailer (or hammer and nails) and wood glue.
  • Drill: A power drill with a 1/2″ bit for the stylus holder.
  • Sandpaper: Fine-grit sandpaper for smoothing edges.
  • Tablet & Stylus: Because this project is all about them!
  • Finishing Touches: Paint, elastic, decorative ribbon, and a heavy-duty stapler.
  • Mounting Supplies: Don’t forget screws and anchors to hang your masterpiece.
  • Secret Weapon: Scotch® Permanent Mounting Tape (we’ll get to why this is a game-changer later).

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Measure Twice, Cut Once

  • Tablet Base: Lay your tablet on your wood and trace around it, adding about 1/8″ of wiggle room on each side.
  • Side Panels: Determine how tall you want your side pieces to be, ensuring your tablet sits snugly. I used 3.5″ wide wood, measured down the middle.

2. Cut Out Your Wooden Pieces

  • Using your jigsaw or miter saw, carefully cut out the base, two sideboards, and two end boards. Remember, safety first!
  • Pro Tip: Don’t worry about achieving absolute perfection; embrace the rustic charm!

3. Dry Fit for Peace of Mind

Before we break out the glue, lay out your cut pieces and ensure everything lines up perfectly.

4. Assemble the Tablet Holder Box

  • Apply wood glue to the edges of the base and attach the sides and end pieces.
  • Secure everything in place using your nailer or hammer and nails.
  • Smooth out any rough edges with sandpaper.

5. Create a Stylus Garage

  • Cut a small square of wood to house your stylus.
  • Drill a 1/2″ hole (or adjust based on your stylus size) in the center of the square.
  • Cut out the hole using your jigsaw.

6. Add a Splash of Color

  • Time to unleash your inner artist! Paint the tablet holder and the stylus holder square in your desired color. I love using a paint that doesn’t require primer, for a quick and easy finish.

7. The Magic of Mounting Tape

  • This is where Scotch® Permanent Mounting Tape comes in! Cut a small piece and use it to attach the stylus holder to the side of the tablet holder.
  • This tape provides a strong bond without damaging the wood, unlike nails or screws.

8. Secure Your Tablet with Elastic

  • Staple pieces of elastic to the inside corners of the tablet holder base.
  • This will keep your tablet snug and secure.

9. Conceal and Embellish

  • Hot glue decorative ribbon over the elastic staples for a polished look.

10. Mount Your Masterpiece

  • Use screws and anchors to securely mount your DIY tablet holder to the wall. Choose a location that is convenient and easily visible.
