Sharing Wine, Virtually: A Toast to Jean-Louis Chave’s Mon Coeur Côtes-du-Rhône

Here at Robert Kline Art, we believe in the power of connection, whether through art or, as it turns out, a shared bottle of wine. You see, it’s not just about the craft itself, but the moments of joy and togetherness it inspires. Recently, I had the pleasure of experiencing this firsthand during a virtual wine and dine event with friends, centered around a remarkable bottle of Jean-Louis Chave’s Mon Coeur Côtes-du-Rhône.

A Virtual Toast to Togetherness

Like many of you, my social life has taken on a decidedly digital flavor these days. Zoom dinners have become a cherished ritual, a way to maintain a semblance of normalcy amidst extraordinary times. While some were initially hesitant, we’ve found that sharing a meal virtually can be surprisingly intimate.

For this particular gathering, our friends Susan and Towny had stumbled upon the same wine we had – a serendipitous sign to connect! We decided on a menu of Salmon with Sun-dried Tomato and Olive Tapenade, paired with a side of puréed leeks with basil (head over to Cocoa & Lavender for the recipe – you won’t be disappointed!).

The Wine: A Legacy in the Bottle

Now, I don’t usually get hung up on a winery’s history. After all, some of the most exciting wines come from young, ambitious winemakers. However, there’s something to be said for the legacy of Jean-Louis Chave. With over 500 years of winemaking tradition in the Côtes-du-Rhône region, dating back to 1481, it’s a lineage that speaks volumes.

This particular vintage, the 2017 Mon Coeur, is a beautiful organic expression of the region. Its deep ruby color hinted at the complexities to come. Aromas of red fruit and spice filled the glass, while on the palate, the wine danced between dark black fruits like black currant and blackberry, and bright notes of strawberry and red cherry – a delightful chameleon responding to each bite of food. Earthy notes of anise and pepper lingered, culminating in a satisfying black cherry finish.

Pairing Perfection: Salmon and Beyond

This Côtes-du-Rhône was the perfect companion to our salmon, but its versatility shines through. I envision it pairing beautifully with a range of meat and poultry dishes. Imagine the flavors alongside a classic Chicken Marbella – divine!

A Toast to Virtual Gatherings and Fine Wine

The experience reminded me that even when physically apart, the simple act of sharing a meal and a bottle of wine can foster a sense of connection and joy.
