Recently, I had the pleasure of participating in a Galentine’s Day virtual wine tasting hosted by the McBride Sisters in collaboration with Total Wine. Intrigued? Read on to learn about these trailblazing sisters and their exquisite wines.

The McBride Sisters’ story is one of serendipity and shared passion. Separated by continents, Robin growing up in California and Andréa in New Zealand, they discovered each other later in life, united by their shared heritage and a mutual love for wine.
Their journey, culminating in the establishment of the McBride Sisters Collection in 2005, is truly inspiring. Today, they lead the largest Black-owned wine company in the US, championing diversity and inclusivity within the industry.

“We wanted to create a wine that not only tasted amazing but also represented the strength, beauty, and resilience of Black women,” shared Robin McBride during the virtual tasting.
A Sensory Journey: Exploring the Flavors of Black Girl Magic
While I couldn’t sample the sold-out Sparkling Brut, my tasting began with the 2019 California Rosé. This delightful wine transported me straight to summer with its vibrant raspberry and orange blossom aromas. Refreshingly dry, it boasted a clean finish without any lingering bitterness.
Next, I ventured into the world of red blends with the 2018 California Red Blend. Despite my usual preference for lighter reds, this blend surprised me. The initial aroma, reminiscent of bolder reds, gave way to a smooth, approachable palate with subtle fruit notes and a balanced oakiness.
