How to Ride in the Universal Orlando Mardi Gras Parade

Mardi Gras Parade at Universal Studios

The vibrant energy of New Orleans’ French Quarter comes alive at Universal Orlando’s Mardi Gras celebration. But did you know you can be more than just a spectator? Imagine yourself catching beads, tossing out doubloons, and soaking in the cheers from the crowd – all from your very own Mardi Gras float. That’s right, you can actually ride in the Universal Orlando Mardi Gras Parade!

Let me be your guide to making this unforgettable experience a reality.

Universal Orlando Mardi Gras Parade Dates and Times

Before we dive into the “how-to,” let’s talk timing. Universal Orlando’s Mardi Gras celebration usually kicks off in early February and lasts through mid-April, with parades happening on select nights. Be sure to check the official Universal Orlando website for the most up-to-date schedule.

Two Ways to Ride: Virtual Line vs. Float Ride and Dine Experience

Here’s the breakdown of how to snag your spot on a float:

1. Virtual Line Passes: Your Free Ticket to Ride

Universal utilizes a Virtual Line system for many of its attractions, and the Mardi Gras parade is no exception. Here’s the gist:

  • Download the Universal App: This is your lifeline for securing a Virtual Line pass.
  • Be Ready Around 3 PM: Virtual Line passes are released around this time each day, and they’re gone fast!
  • Select Your Time: You’ll choose a return window to claim your spot on a float.
  • Pro Tip: Can’t snag a pass? Head over to the Animal Actors On Location! show around 5:15 PM. They often announce released passes from no-shows.

2. Mardi Gras Float Ride and Dine Experience: Guaranteed Fun with a Side of Food

For a guaranteed spot and a touch of luxury, the Mardi Gras Float Ride and Dine Experience is your ticket:

  • Reserve Your Spot: Book this experience in advance online as availability is limited.
  • Enjoy a 3-Course Meal: Choose from one of four fantastic Universal restaurants.
  • Receive Your Wristband: Check in at Animal Actors On Location! 1-1.75 hours before the parade.
  • Price: $84.99 per person (gratuity included).

Important Things to Know Before You Ride

  • Age Requirement: Riders must be at least 18 years old or accompanied by an adult.
  • Height Requirement: You must be at least 48 inches tall to ride.
  • Time Commitment: The entire experience (from check-in to the end of the parade) can take 2-3 hours.
  • Concert Nights: If riding on a concert night, be aware you might miss the beginning of the show.

My Personal Experience: Riding the Mardi Gras Dragon Float

I had the incredible opportunity to experience the Mardi Gras parade from a float, and it was pure magic! After checking in and receiving my wristband, I was assigned to the Dragon float. The energy was electric, and the music was infectious. I had an absolute blast tossing beads to the enthusiastic crowd. It was an experience I’ll never forget!
