Planning Your Vanity
Dimensions and Design:
The beauty of DIY lies in customization! While I’ll be sharing my dimensions (36″ long, 12″ deep, and 5 1/2″ thick), feel free to adjust them to perfectly fit your space.
Pro Tip: Before you even pick up a saw, measure your available wall space! This will help you determine the ideal vanity size.

Building the Vanity Box: Let’s Get Started!
Step 1: Sizing Up the Top and Bottom
Cut your 1″ x 12″ pine boards down to 36″ in length. These will form the robust top and bottom of your vanity.
Step 2: Crafting the Side Panels
Grab one of your leftover 1″ x 12″ scraps. From it, cut two pieces measuring 4″ each. These will become the sturdy sides of your vanity.
Step 3: Assembling the Vanity Box
Apply a generous amount of wood glue to one edge of each 4″ side piece. Next, attach these side pieces to the ends of one of your 36″ long pieces using your brad nailer or finish nails and hammer.
Step 4: Reinforcing the Structure
Flip your assembled piece over. Run glue along the remaining edges of the 4″ side pieces. Carefully position the second 36″ long piece (your top panel) on top, ensuring everything aligns perfectly. Secure it in place using your preferred nailing method. For added strength, clamp the ends together while the glue dries.
Step 5: Preparing the Front Panel and Support
Cut your 1″ x 6″ pine board down to 36″ for your front panel. Next, cut the 2″ x 2″ furring strip to 34 1/2″. This will be our secret weapon for mounting the vanity securely.
Step 6: Adding a Touch of Elegance
Now, for the fun part – painting! Apply a few coats of your chosen paint to the vanity box and the 1″ x 6″ front panel. Remember, you don’t need to paint the 2″ x 2″ furring strip.
Mounting Your Vanity: Secure and Stylish
Step 7: Finding the Sweet Spot
Measure up 29 1/4″ from the floor on your chosen wall and make several marks. Use a stud finder to locate and mark the studs at that height.
Step 8: Installing the Mounting Support
Attach the 2″ x 2″ furring strip to the wall at your marked height, ensuring it’s level. Use the 3 1/2″ long screws to secure it directly into the studs.
Step 9: Prepping for Hidden Storage
Position your corner braces on the inside of the vanity box’s back panel, aligning them with where the studs are on the wall. This will provide additional support.
Step 10: Attaching the Hinges
Lay your 1″ x 6″ front panel face down and attach the hinges as shown in the original guide. This will create the seamless hidden storage compartment for your makeup essentials.
Step 11: Securing the Vanity
Carefully place the vanity box onto the 2″ x 2″ mounting strip you installed earlier. Use the 1 5/8″ screws to secure the vanity to the mounting strip.
Step 12: Finishing Touches
Open your newly installed front panel and fasten the corner brackets to the wall using the 3 1/2″ screws. Finally, install your chosen cabinet knob on the front panel.
Accessorizing Your Vanity: Let Your Style Shine
Now that your DIY vanity is securely mounted, it’s time to personalize it! Add a mirror, chic sconces for perfect lighting, and decorate with your favorite trinkets to create a space as unique as you are.
