DIY Rolling Printer Cart: A Simple Solution for a Clutter-Free Office

As an artist, I understand the need for both functionality and aesthetics in a workspace. A bulky printer sitting out can really disrupt the creative flow. That’s why I decided to build this simple, yet stylish rolling printer cart. It’s the perfect solution to keep your printer accessible while maximizing your workspace. And the best part? It’s incredibly easy to build, even for a beginner!

Planning Your Cart

Before diving into the construction, consider the dimensions of your printer and any additional storage needs. Do you need space for paper, ink cartridges, or other office supplies? I opted for a shelf beneath the printer to house these essentials, keeping everything organized and within arm’s reach.

Gathering Your Materials

This project requires minimal materials, primarily a half sheet of plywood, casters, and screws. You can find the complete cut list in the free plans provided by our friends at Build Something (link below).

Pro Tip: Consider using pre-painted plywood to save time and effort.

Building Your Cart

This build is incredibly beginner-friendly, with all straight cuts and no complicated angles. The Kreg pocket-hole jig is your secret weapon, making assembly a breeze.

  1. Cut the plywood: Begin by cutting your plywood according to the provided cut list.
  2. Drill pocket holes: Using your Kreg jig, drill pocket holes at all the designated locations. Pay close attention to the placement, particularly at the corners.
  3. Assemble: With all your pieces ready, dry fit them together to ensure a perfect fit. Then, simply attach everything using screws through the pre-drilled pocket holes.
  4. Add Casters: Once the cart structure is complete, attach the casters to the base. This will transform your stationary cart into a mobile printing station.

Finishing Touches

While I opted for a natural finish, feel free to customize your cart with paint or stain. It’s best to do this before assembly to avoid any hard-to-reach areas.
